A man who was found badly beaten and bound inside the remnants of old Tiger Stadium has been identified by his family as Gerald Studavent.

Studevent, 33, remains in critical condition at an area hospital, recovering from a beating that severely injured his face and head, family members reported.

Sgt. Eren Stephens of the Detroit Police Department said police hope to question Studavent as soon as he is able to talk.

Detroit Police said a security guard found Studavent, in his mid-40s, inside the ballpark gates on Saturday afternoon.

Bob Rossbach, a spokesman for the Detroit Economic Growth Corp., said Studevant did not work for the stadium security team and was not a worker associated with the demolition of the site. He also said security has been increased at the site, and said investigators are unsure about how the person or persons got on the site.
