Apparently, his role next season and beyond was going to be reduced to virtually nothing.  Therefore, he decided to retire.

Yeah, I just heard about this, and I guess he's supposed to announce his retirement tomorrow.

First, I just want to thank Bobby Bowden from a football fan's point of view. No, I didn't like the fact that he was able to put Clemson as one of his victims several times, but I had to appreciate his greatness and ingenuity. I was in Death Valley as a kid when he made one of the boldest calls I've ever seen as he called one of the best plays in college football--the puntrooski. He broke my heart and the hearts of many Clemson fans that rainy day, but I had to admire the guts and sheer genius.

Second, he's been pure class. I don't think he ever had anything negative to say about his opponents. And he's always had one of the best sense of humor around.

Third, I realize that this can't be easy on him, but I hope he sees that the administration had to look at the overall long-term health of their program. Hopefully, Coach Bowden can move on.

COACH BOWDEN, THANK YOU!!

Its sad time being an FSU fan these days but its going to be very different  to not see Bobby Bowden anymore on the sidelines, thank you for building a powerhouse out of nothing and as an FSU fan I will always remember what Coach Bowden did for my Seminoles.
