The Big 12, thought to be in mortal condition as recently as late Saturday, will remain alive as a 10-team league after Texas signed off on the new arrangement late Monday afternoon, UT officials have told the American-Statesman.

A source from a Big 12 school other than Texas also confirmed that UT has given its blessing to the deal that will keep the Big 12 intact after overtures from the Pacific 10 Conference to UT and five other Big 12 schools.

“The Pac-10 people are at home,” said the highly placed source. “They know it’s over.”

University president William Powers, men’s athletic director DeLoss Dodds and women’s AD Chris Plonsky will participate in a news conference at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bellmont Hall. Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe will address the media Tuesday in a teleconference.

Tuesday’s scheduled UT regents meeting has been called off.

Since the Big 12 will have 10 teams, WOAI TV in San Antonio said on its sport cast tonight that the Big 12 should take the name of the old Southwest Conference.

I think Texas stayed in the Big 12 because they will be getting there own TV network according to WOAI TV in San Antonio.  Texas seems to getting all the attention probably what they wanted in the first place.
