For the first time in its history, the Valero Alamo Bowl has secured a January game date. The 17th annual Valero Alamo Bowl will kickoff on Saturday, January 2 at 8 p.m. CST in a nationally televised game on ESPN unopposed from any other college or NFL football games on network television.

The game will air nationally on ESPN for the 23rd straight year, and feature the runner-up from the Pacific-10 Conference against the third selection from the Big 12 Conference. The 2008 Pacific Life Holiday Bowl featured Oklahoma State versus Oregon in front of 59,106 fans. The game received a 4.6 television rating on the all sports network.
The 5th annual San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl kicks off at 5 p.m. PST on Wednesday, December 23rd, also at Qualcomm Stadium. The bowl will air on ESPN and pit the second selection from the Mountain West Conference against the sixth place team from the Pacific-10 Conference. Last year’s game featured a 17-16 TCU Horned Frogs victory over the Boise State Broncos in front of 34,628 fans. The game garnered a 3.74 rating on ESPN.
